It was a good day for Sussex athletes in the annual Brighton 10k road race which was held on Sunday 18th November after missing last year’s event because of severe weather conditions.

 
BASC Young Sports Personality of the Year

altCongratulations to Amber Anning who was voted 'Young Female Sports Personality of the Year' by the British Athletics Supporters Association (BASC) for her 2017 season.

Amber, a member of the club since she was nine, travelled to Coventry on her 17th birthday to receive the award.

This year, representing England, she won two gold medals at the World Schools' Championships. She followed this up with a 400m bronze medal at the Commonwealth Youth Games in the Bahamas. Her time of 53.68s was a Sussex Senior Women’s record and was the fastest time run by a British 16-year-old girl since 1984. She also took home a silver relay medal from the Caribbean and ended the season with a national title and club record of 23.76s over 200m and the World Lead (U18) time of 37.79s over 300m when, representing England South, she smashed the School Games Championship Best.

Amber ended 2017 topping the UK U17 rankings over 200m, 300m and 400m and ranked second over 100m. Her time over this distance of 11.79s in her one race of the season, equalled the 14-year-old Sussex U17 record, held by Crawley's Carley Wenham.

 
More Excellent Performances at Bexhill, 11.11.17

The Second Sussex league meeting took place at Bexhill where conditions were just right for cross country with only a few muddy stretches. As at Goodwood we had another excellent turn out with many strong performances with three of our six teams winning on the day and two individual winners.

 
Sussex League Success for Brighton Youngsters in First fixture of the Season

The first Sussex league race was held next to Goodwood racecourse on a pleasant mild afternoon and in all the younger age groups there were record fields. Despite illness and holidays the Brighton youngsters had another successful afternoon with many fine performances.

After the glorious weather at the relays at Crystal Palace the week before, it was back to the wet and damp conditions at Goodwood for the annual relays, where we had 47 Brighton youngsters competing.There many excellent performances with two team win and two fastest laps. There were also two team silver medals a 3rd place team medal and one second and two 3rd fastest laps completing a great afternoon for the club.

 
Brighton's Emma is World Champion

We have a new World Champion in Sussex.

Brighton & Hove’s Emma Dixon, who was runner up in the Sussex senior cross-country championship in January has won the World Junior (20-24 age group) Sprint Triathlon Championship in Rotterdam.

Dixon is currently studying to become a Vet at Royal Veterinary College in London only started Triathlons last year and has made remarkable progress qualifying for the World Championship in May when she was the first British finisher in the “Qualifying” “Sprint” (750m swim, 20km bike and 5km run) event and she has also won the British “Standard” (1.5k swim, 40km Bike and 10km run) age group title in Leeds in the summer where the Brownlee brothers had to qualify for their event.
